2018 marked the 80th anniversary of the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia, founded in 1938 by composer Artemy Ayvazyan. The orchestra quickly gained popularity across the Soviet Union, captivating audiences with its blend of American jazz and Armenian national music. It continued to flourish, earning international recognition and recording albums such as Mountain Dance, Armenian Jazz Band, and Masisamba. Under the leadership of Armen Hyusnunts since 2010, the orchestra has expanded its repertoire to include both classic jazz and compositions by Armenian jazz legends.
The orchestra also promotes young talent, featuring the works of contemporary Armenian composers. With notable performances in countries like Russia, Canada, and France, and collaborations with famous soloists, the orchestra plays a key role in the development and promotion of jazz in Armenia.
